summer is a good time to prepare for fall

I know, you have just finished putting away the school books from last year and dumped stacks of unwanted papers into the recycling bin and now you are finally ready to officially start your summer.  O.K., maybe this is just me, but now is the best time to start to prepare for the fall.

Dealing with chronic illness while educating your children pulls your energy to the limits.  Even if you were completely well, there still would not be enough time in the day to get everything that needed to be done completed.  So, summer is the perfect time to begin to think about the 2018-2019 school year and a great place to start is food.  Everyone needs to eat, and cooking and preparing meals everyday on top of teaching all of your kiddos, is something that adds even more time and physical demands on your body leading to more stress.

So this summer it may be helpful to start cooking double batches of food and get it into the freezer.  Maybe one or two weeks you can focus on breakfast foods such as pancakes, muffins, and egg burritos and the following weeks you can focus on lunch and dinner items.  As of today, there is only 9 weeks until Labor Day………time flies and it will be here before we know it.

I would love to know what your favorite freezer recipe is.

Have a blessed day

Maybe it’s just me, but I love homeschool catalogs and not the ones that you view on-line.  Those are ok in a pinch, but being chronically ill, it is hard for me to stare at a screen for hours…..like I do the catalogs!  Nope, I actually feel a tinge of excitement when a new, freshly printed catalog is waiting in the mailbox for me.  I can spend HOURS looking through them.  So, in case you feel the same way. I have complied a list of free catalogs that can be sent straight to your home.  Just in time to start planning for the fall.  Happy Reading!

Bible verse of the week

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

This is the very reason we chose to homeschool our children.  None of the years have been easy, but God never promised us easy……….He just promised us salvation.  The only things you can take to heaven is your children, and it is my job to do what I can to get them there.

Being chronically ill and homeschooling are not an easy combination, but it is the promise from Proverbs 22:6 that keeps me going day after day………year after year.  My prayer for you is this verse will also encourage you to keep going and rely on God’s promises.

inspiration of the week…..

Deuteronomy 4:9-10 “But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren. Never forget the day when you stood before the Lord your God at Mount Sinai, where he told me, Summon the people before me, and I will personally instruct them. Then they will learn to fear me as long as they live, and they will teach their children to fear me also.”

Isn’t this what God expects of us as parents?  That we are to teach our children in the way they should go?  To fear The Lord?  To live a life pleasing to God?

These are the exact reasons I chose to homeschool my children and the reason I chose to take the even more difficult path in homeschooling while chronically ill.  I am not saying I have done this perfectly, or even well some days, but I am doing my  best with a prayer that my children will see my dedication to God and choose to live their life with the same or better dedication.  Our children are the only things we can take to heaven and I want to do my part to get them there.

Until next time……………………God’s love and peace go with you.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 New International Version (NIV)

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Being a homeschool mom with a chronic illness gives you lots of opportunities to call out to God in prayer.  I continue to pray every day for His wisdom and strength to guide me along my days.  Over and over again God has placed Deuteronomy 6:6-7 on my heart and it brings me comfort………..I pray that it brings you comfort too.

Thank you to all mothers……….

Proverbs 22:6 (KJV) Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

A big  thank you to all mothers who are homeschooling your children, under difficult conditions, because you are honoring God’s call for your life.  Your reward will be great for following God’s word.
