Voices of the Martyrs have wonderful, free downloadable booklets on persecuted Christians throughout the world.  It includes a little bit about the country, it’s location, culture, dominate religion, and how we can pray for the Christians in that country.  These booklets are geared toward children ages 5-13.

VOM also offers a free copy of the book Tortured for Christ, 50th anniversary addition, by Pastor Richard Wurmbrand founder.

As homeschool moms we need to take in a constant supply of encouragement, and what better place then to find this in God’s word.  Although the Bible is our ultimate guide, I do enjoy reading books that discuss God’s teachings.

I have found a wonderfully generous Christian site that offers free books through the mail.  I have requested several and have enjoyed reading them in my quiet time, before our school begins each day.  May you find this site to be a blessing also.

The Road Not Taken and homeschooling with a chronic illness

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Being a homeschool mom puts you on a path that is definitely less traveled.  BUT, being a mom who is chronically ill and homeschooling………….you are absolutely, positively taking the road that few people have dared to meander.
This means the path is more rough, with abundantly more twists and turns.  But just because it has more bumps along the way, doesn’t mean it isn’t more beautiful and more rewarding.  You get to see things that most moms never get to experience with their children and for this and so many other reasons, I continue to do what I do and teach my children at home.  And when the days get tough, and drag on, and I am physically reaching my max, I remember this poem………..The Road Not Taken  by Robert Frost and Psalm 119:105………….

Psalm 119:105 King James Version (KJV)

105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Deuteronomy 4:9-10 “But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren. Never forget the day when you stood before the Lord your God at Mount Sinai, where he told me, Summon the people before me, and I will personally instruct them. Then they will learn to fear me as long as they live, and they will teach their children to fear me also.”

Isn’t this what God expects of us as parents?  That we are to teach our children in the way they should go?  To fear The Lord?  To live a life pleasing to God?

These are the exact reasons I chose to homeschool my children and the reason I chose to take the even more difficult path in homeschooling while chronically ill.  I am not saying I have done this perfectly, or even well some days, but I am doing my  best with a prayer that my children will see my dedication to God and choose to live their life with the same or better dedication.  Our children are the only things we can take to heaven and I want to do my part to get them there.

Until next time……………………God’s love and peace go with you.

My favorite homeschool devotional

Homeschooling as many years as I have, I have read a lot of homeschool devotionals.  Most of them were easy and encouraging to read, but none, in my humble opinion, have been as good as, All Things Homeschool 180 Devotions for Homeschooling Mothers by Jan L. Burt.  Her daily devotions are short, sweet, to the point, and make you think deeper about your walk with Christ.

Maybe it is because I am chronically ill that I needed something with less fluff and more meat, as homeschooling while ill is not for wimps, period.  It is tough but………….

Matthew 19:26 King James Version (KJV)

26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

May your day be blessed, my friend………….
